Creatures of Sonaria Diet Checklist
Match the spawn card to a food pile before the hunger bar finishes the tutorial for you.
Most early deaths in Creatures of Sonaria are diet deaths wearing a KoS costume. The player sniffed, ran toward a glowing pile, and held E on the wrong kingdom. This checklist is the pocket version of that mistake. Use it when you pick a starter, when a weekly drop looks pretty, and when an AFK Shoom plan needs a body that can sit. It does not replace getting started or how to grow. It tells you what to hold E on.
The four diets you will actually spawn
Carnivore. Meat. Carcasses on the ground, meat you killed, meat you stole. Y picks up a carcass when the species can carry. Flowers are decorations. Photovore lakes are not a backup plan. Huge carnivores need more trips; that is why they are bad starters and good PvP bills.
Herbivore. Plants, bushes, mushroom piles, oasis greenery, many mission snack nodes. Redwoods and pond edges are friendly. A herbivore that walks into a barren mesa is a self-own. Aquatic herbivores can often stay wet and eat; check the card.
Omnivore. Either pile. Panic-eat the nearest legal food. Still not rocks, still not other players unless you are also fighting. Omnivores are the beginner tier glue.
Photovore. Light plus water, sometimes only water depending on the kit. Caves and night storms are the wipe. Deep covered water is the AFK dream if disasters miss. Photo-carnivore and other hybrids exist; read the spawn text instead of assuming “photo” means vegan.
Iron stomach (on some kits, including several PvP names) lets a species ignore food type rules that would sicken others. It is a perk, not a diet change you should plan a beginner slot around.
Water, moisture, oxygen
Thirst is not diet. Almost everyone drinks. Aquatics may not need a shoreline if the kit says so. Land tanks that swim too long start drowning. Semi-aquatics juggle moisture and oxygen; if either bar is new to you, stay in the element the card calls home until how to survive makes sense.
Mud rolls and other E-prompts are not food. They are status. Do not confuse a mud pile with dinner unless the species text says so.
Appetite as a checklist item
Appetite is minutes of life without a meal. High appetite is what makes AFK and mutation sits possible. Low appetite is what makes a cute tiny carnivore a full-time job. When two trials cost the same Shooms, pick the higher appetite if your goal is learning or mush, not a highlight.
Satiation (fed past empty) speeds growth. The checklist is not “touch food once.” It is “keep the bar high.”
A 15-second pre-spawn check
- Read diet on the card.
- Name a biome where that food is obvious (pond, redwood, carcass field, open sky + lake).
- Name an escape if KoS arrives.
- If you cannot do 2, pick another species from the creatures hub.
- If you can do 2 but not 3, you can still learn; just do not nest there.
Event weeks such as Summer Paradise add snack nodes on beaches. They do not turn a carnivore into a photovore. The tools hub is the index. This page is the filter. Use it before the gacha, not after the skeleton.
If you are sharing a nest, tell the requester the mother’s diet before they hatch. A baby that copies a huge carnivore inherits the same meal problem, only with a weaker hitbox. Send them to how to nest and this checklist together so the first E-prompt is not a flower. That one sentence prevents more tutorial rage than another tier-list argument.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers players ask after a wipe, a death, or a new event.
Can omnivores eat anything in Creatures of Sonaria?
Meat and plants, yes. Not every interactable pile. Sniff still matters.
Do photovores need food piles?
Usually light and water, not mushrooms. Caves will still kill them.
Why is my carnivore starving next to plants?
Wrong diet. Find a carcass or kill something you are allowed to eat. Flowers will not save the bar.
